In 2021, I took part in the Historun organized by Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Leiden (PPI Leiden) in Leiden, contributing not only as a participant but also as a researcher and guide.
This edition of the Historun focused on exploring sites in Leiden that reflect the historical relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia. In preparation for the event, I conducted research on key locations connected to colonial history, academic exchange, and Indonesian presence in the Netherlands. I developed historical summaries and contextual explanations to help participants better understand the significance of each site.
During the event, I guided participants along the route, presenting the historical background of selected landmarks including institutions such as Leiden University, which has long played a central role in Southeast Asian and Indonesian studies. The Historun was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Netherlands, making the occasion extra meaningful.
Through this experience, I strengthened my skills in historical research, public speaking, and community engagement, while contributing to a reflective dialogue about the shared but notoriously complex history between Indonesia and the Netherlands.
